About Us.....
Scanning Tasmania started out as a small group of local users in the north of the state (Launceston) and was basically a place where these people could share their passion of radio scanning and discuss all related topics with each other, the group started to get a lot of interest from other people all over the state and so it was at this point that Launceston Scan was officially formed and started.
Launceston Scan started it's own Yahoo Group on the 9th February 2004, the group then started taking on a lot more members and before long it was in the double figures.
A website was discussed and eventually put on-line where it started to see an increase in traffic from not only local visitors but from all over the world, it was then decided and voted on by the members that the group should consider changing it's name to better reflect the whole state of Tasmania rather than just being a northern based group, this would not only better serve the whole state but it would also be more beneficial to those outside of Tassie when visiting the state as it could offer more information from all over, so was born Scanning Tasmania and this very website you are looking at today, all though it has seen a few changes over the last year or so!
Since then Scanning Tasmania has moved forwards in leaps and bounds and has become a very popular site, we see more and more traffic each month which is very satisfying. We will continue to update and add new things as often as we can but we do rely on help from our readers, so if you have something to add or think we should have then please contact us and share your idea's!
On the 02/11/07 we decided to close down our long standing Yahoo Group which had also gone through various changes, including name changes, as we had really out grown it and it now lacked some features that we wanted to make available to our members, however the group has not gone all together, instead we moved over to a forum based setup as this has all the features we need and many others we can add, we find this a better way to manage our members and to be able to offer them what the Yahoo Group couldn't plus much much more.
You can find our new forum HERE or by clicking on the forum link situated on the menu at the top of this page, we do hope you will sign up and become a member, and please note that we welcome anyone at all to join up and you don't have to live in Tasmania to become a member, signing up is fast and free and allows you to post and discuss radio & scanner related topics with other enthusiasts in a fun and friendly environment!
We hope to bring you fresh content and idea's to help make your scanning hobby as enjoyable as possible and so you get the very most out of it, we do hope that you will continue to support us now and into the future.
We will also, from time to time, be on the look out for moderators and or Admin's to help us run the forum, if you would like to offer to help us on the forum then please let us know, there are many sections of the forum and the more people we have to help out the better it will be for everyone!
